UnScene ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the UnScene iOS application and related services collect, use, and safeguard your information.
2. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Consent confirmations when activating a focus session
- Exit codes entered to end your session
Information Collected Automatically
- Location data: Used solely for geofence-based unlock detection. We monitor whether your device is within or outside a venue boundary. We do not track your movements or store location history beyond the active session.
- Device identifiers: Anonymous session identifiers generated on-device. We do not collect Apple advertising identifiers (IDFA) or any persistent device fingerprints.
- Session data: Start time, end time, how the session ended, and focus mode for your own session history. Stored locally on your device.
Information We Do Not Collect
- We never see which apps are installed on your device. Apple's Screen Time APIs use opaque tokens that prevent us from identifying your apps.
- We do not collect personal contact information, browsing history, or message content.
- We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Activate and manage voluntary focus sessions
- Detect when you leave a venue boundary (geofence) to end your session automatically
- Generate cryptographic consent attestations for legal compliance
- Display your session history within the app
- Debug and recover from app errors (stored locally only)
4. Data Storage
All data is stored locally on your device using iOS secure storage mechanisms:
- Keychain: Cryptographic keys for consent attestation
- App Groups: Session state shared between the app and its system extension
- UserDefaults: App preferences and session recovery data
We do not transmit your personal data to external servers. The app operates primarily on-device.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties. Anonymous, aggregate participation counts may be shared with venue operators (e.g., "42 attendees activated UnScene"). No individual user data is ever shared.
6. Permissions
The app requests the following device permissions:
- Screen Time (FamilyControls): Required to pause and resume apps during focus sessions
- Location (When In Use / Always): Used for geofence-based session end detection
- Camera: Used to scan venue QR codes at check-in
- Notifications: Optional, used for unlock alerts and session reminders
You may revoke any permission at any time through iOS Settings. Revoking Screen Time permission will automatically end all active focus sessions.
7. Security
We employ industry-standard security measures including:
- ECDSA cryptographic signatures for policy verification
- Secure Enclave key storage where available
- Certificate pinning for network communications
- Tamper-evident audit logging
8. Children's Privacy
UnScene is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app's use of Screen Time APIs is for voluntary, self-directed focus management, not parental controls.
9. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your session history within the app
- Delete your local data by uninstalling the app
- Revoke permissions at any time through iOS Settings
- End any focus session immediately by tapping Exit Now
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, through in-app notification.
